I have just emailed part 1 of our Summer Garden Party SAL to our subscribers. 

We are offering this SAL as part of our Garden Party series.

Each SAL is in 9 parts, easy to stitch in the smaller sections, enlarged to fit the page. Each is emailed to subscribers once a week till all 9 parts are released

I have been pleased to see a lot of you purchasing my very first design, Creation, on my Etsy Shop   Creation Sampler  However, I have questions.

There is a Mystery surrounding recent orders of my Creation Sampler published so many years ago. Lately, since I have been seeing many orders from you for Creation, my very first design, in my Etsy Shop I wonder:

What prompted your orders?
Is there a special retreat in the planning?
Are you all friends, doing a stitch along together?

I am delighted with the orders but am curious as to the why.
I know there is a wonderful story to tell. :-)

Long Way Home - New Quaker Sampler

The Long Way Home, packed full of Quaker/Vierlanden  medallions.  And there oodles of little houses, including a lighthouse overlooking the water.

This design, 152 x 152, can be worked over 1 or 2. 

We suggest aida or 2 threads of any evenweave or linen.  

There is minimal back stitch just to highlight some of the houses and buildings.

It has been charted in 11 DMC colors with an excellent cross reference to beautiful Dinky Dyes Silk floss.

Our cover model uses Wichelt’s Water Lily linen, in                    32 count # 65203.  Use one or two strands for back stitch  depending upon the look you prefer.

The finished size, worked on that 32 count fabric over 2 threads, is 9 ½” square.  If this design is worked on 36 count over 2, finished size would be approximately 8 ½.  On 25 count over 1, finished size would be 6 ¼ over 6 ¼ inches.  The Long Way Home design can be worked over 1 thread, but take care with the detailed little houses and their tiny window panes.

New Release - Adam's Menagerie

I've completed stitching Adam's Menagerie!  Size is 198x200 stitches.
This  menagerie of little creatures will make you smile as you stitch.  The critters include a hedgehog, an ostrich, a red squirrel, quail, a pair of chameleons, even a hidden leopard!  
Adam's Menagerie will be a delightful design to stitch on upcoming winter evenings. The Genesis verse 2:19 tells the story of how Adam named the newly created animals and bird in the Garden of Eden.  
Wouldn't one of these little animals look cute stitched on a pocket or the edge of a collar?

The model was stitched with DMC on the Wichelt Beach Walk  32 ct linen. #65282 - similar to  524 DMC light grey green. As in all my charts, this one includes instructions for specialty stitches which are petite stitch and Algerian eye.

Across the Miles- Pending Release

 ** PENDING RELEASE **

I've finished a new design called Across the Miles for 2011.  Across the Miles has been delivered to Hoffmandis, and is now available in shops.

This design is 111 x 112, and is a fairly easy stitch with blackwork done in brick reds, coffee brown and olive greens to give a lot of detail and complexity with relatively little work for the stitcher.  There are also half and quarter stitches and a row of Algerian eyelets - the little flowers.

Across the Miles makes a pretty gift, and an unforgettable one to be sure.

 Feathers 'n Fins is 199x200.  It is a medley of sea and sky motifs including mermaids juggling pearls and sea horses frolicking with swans.  This is a delightful stitch; model was worked on Wichelt's natural light brown 40 ct with Crescent Colours floss - a candy store of colors!

American philosopher, poet and essayist, Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882) offered this thoughtful statement in his Essay, “Gifts”.  This seemingly simple statement is in fact, a statement of great insight and depth of meaning.  A gift of oneself is the most beautiful and precious of all offerings.

Quaker Rocky Road

Wikipedia relates some fascinating information which inspired my design. “The world's first commercial ice cream factory was opened in Baltimore, Maryland in 1851, by Jacob Fussell,  a Quaker dairy farmer.  An unstable demand for his milk led him to mass produce ice cream which allowed this previously expensive concoction to be offered at prices everyone could afford. He opened ice cream parlors from Maryland to Texas, later selling his business to Borden.”  A big bowl of Rocky Road ice cream just may have been on the menu!

Quaker Rocky Road is composed of full crosses, back stitches and a single eyelet in tones of chocolate and marshmallow, with a few nut and berry tones shades tossed in for variety.  The chocolate chunks are stitched in the various browns, so that the motifs formed by the unstitched white linen areas the look of Assisi embroidery.

Back stitched Blackwork style filigree bands, border, various motifs in chocolate and pistachio reminds us of those dainty little ice cream wafers, a plaid "shortbread cookie" border completes the look.  The design reads “Chocolate Smooths the Rocky Road of Life”.  Isn’t that the truth?

Incidentally,  Smooths and Smoothes are both correct spellings!

Pleasant Surprise!

Rene of the ILCS Group was so sweet to send me this lovely stitch picker that she made. The dainty blue and white beads remind me of the sea, which I do so miss visiting.  Rene la Frog, as we all love to call her attached her signature silver frogs to add weight and control to the picker.  This one won't go flying into the carpet, I am absolutely sure!

Vikki Clayton has just posted my newest design, Creation, to her site, Hand-Dyed Fibers.

I have labored long and hard for many hours, burning the midnight oil.  At long last, the chart is complete.  I hope all of you enjoy it as much as I have.
