The Last Days of Swans and Shears SAL

Hello to happy stitchers everywhere.
This post is all about the final days of  my “Swans and Shears”  SAL which has now ended.   This SAL has been running since January 19, 2018.  Now, in a few days, we will remove the SAL parts from our Facebook group.  That date is September 15, 2018.
After that, we begin a month where SAL members re-check carefully to be sure they have saved all the parts.  There is a set of parts charted in the colorway you see above. Then there is a set with one symbol so you can choose your own colors.

The Facebook group will remain open until October 15, 2018.  From September 15 to October 15. If  you are missing a part, you need to contact me or one of my Admins for replacement parts.  After October 15, we will not replace any lost parts.

For those who are not members, if you purchase before October 15th, I will email the parts to you.
You might want to purchase the SAL right away before it is gone.  Next year, it may be offered to needlework shops and be listed in my Etsy as a chart with a higher price.
I hope you will take advantage of the time remaining so you can enjoy this pretty design at the special SAL price.

Long Way Home - New Quaker Sampler

For the adventurous stitcher:

To be released to your favorite shops.  And now on Etsy
The Long Way Home, packed full of Quaker/Vierlanden  medallions.  And there oodles of little houses, including a lighthouse overlooking the water.
This design, 152 x 152, can be worked over 1 or 2.
We suggest aida or 2 threads of any evenweave or linen.
There is minimal back stitch just to highlight some of the houses and buildings.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It has been charted in 11 DMC colors with an excellent cross reference to beautiful Dinky Dyes Silk floss.
Our cover model uses Wichelt’s Water Lily linen, in                    32 count # 65203.  Use one or two strands for back stitch  depending upon the look you prefer.
The finished size, worked on that 32 count fabric over 2 threads, is 9 ½” square.  If this design is worked on 36 count over 2, finished size would be approximately 8 ½.  On 25 count over 1, finished size would be 6 ¼ over 6 ¼ inches.  The Long Way Home design can be worked over 1 thread, but take care with the detailed little houses and their tiny window panes.

Three Designs Pending Release!

PENDING RELEASE **A TRIO of Beauties

Wintery Moon in the Round; 156x156 - is a spin-off of the third design in the upcoming Tempting Tangles “WaterMeadows Castle” series.  Charted in DMC floss, it is easy to translate to your favorite specialty floss. This design does have some half, quarter and petite stitches with instruction.  Stitch on white or pale gray, any pastel linen or even weave.

This round version of Wintery Moon is a cameo of the original, larger, more detailed Wintery Moon, which will be available to shops as part of the upcoming Watermeadows Season Series, for later in 2011/2012.

Panoply of Peacocks - 257x353 - With it’s dozens upon dozens of antique-style peacocks, twirling together in a kaleidoscope of peacock hued & patterned motifs reminiscent of more serious Quaker medallions, this design is the very definition of the word “panoply”.

Calculated to fit nicely on a fat quarter of 32 or 36 count linen if stitched over 2 threads, it can be just as beautiful stitched over 1 on an even weave of 26 count, resulting in a finished work of 10 x 13 ¾”. Stitched over 1 on 28 count, you will have a dainty piece 9 1/4 x 12 3/4.  Suggested flosses are Crescent Colours silk or cotton floss. The design is currently being stitched in the elegant, variegated belle soie, for a stunning finish to this luscious design.  Pictures will be posted as soon as that work is complete.  Nothing looks quite the same as hand-dyed silk, so do treat yourself on this design. The result will be worth your efforts.

Liberty For All - 193x233 - Just in time for Fourth of July stitching.  Flavors of Americana and Patriotism couldn't be more vibrant in this rich red and blue band sampler. Included are sections of Assisi work to show off the delicate fruited and flowering vines. Complete with tiny, cracked Liberty Bill.  Full and half stitch, back stitch, and Assisi bands with Algerian Eyelet border.

Suggested fabric:  Wichelt linen natural light brown 32 ct over 2 threads.  Finished size if stitched over 2 threads of fabric fits on a fat quarter at 12-1/8 x 14-5/8h inches.   Note: The letter “O” is missing from the alphabet, just to keep you on your toes!

Quaker Rocky Road

Quaker Rocky Road - size  330x260

Wikipedia relates some fascinating information which inspired my design. “The world's first commercial ice cream factory was opened in Baltimore, Maryland in 1851, by Jacob Fussell,  a Quaker dairy farmer.  An unstable demand for his milk led him to mass produce ice cream which allowed this previously expensive concoction to be offered at prices everyone could afford. He opened ice cream parlors from Maryland to Texas, later selling his business to Borden.”  A big bowl of Rocky Road ice cream just may have been on the menu!

Quaker Rocky Road is composed of full crosses, back stitches and a single eyelet in tones of chocolate and marshmallow, with a few nut and berry tones shades tossed in for variety.  The chocolate chunks are stitched in the various browns, so that the motifs formed by the unstitched white linen areas the look of Assisi embroidery.

Back stitched Blackwork style filigree bands, border, various motifs in chocolate and pistachio reminds us of those dainty little ice cream wafers, a plaid "shortbread cookie" border completes the look.  The design reads “Chocolate Smooths the Rocky Road of Life”.  Isn’t that the truth?

Incidentally,  Smooths and Smoothes are both correct spellings!

Panoply of Posies - A Quaker motif sampler with a history

Panoply of Posies    size 250 x 250  - A garden delights in Quaker style motifs with a history, this design has been inspired by collections of antique geometric motifs gathered a century ago from needlework found in rural cottage households in Switzerland.

These beautiful floral figures are reminiscent of wild flowers, ferns, herbs and grasses that blanket the meadows and hills of the rural landscape.  Model is stitched on Zweigart's light khaki davosa.  Suggested are Crescent Colors hand-dyed silks:  Baguette, Harvest and Mer Blue.

Panoply of Posies will soon be available in your local LNS through Hoffman Distributing.

Panoply of Posies progress 12-29-09

GREAT NEWS!
Here, I am halfway across the bottom and will start to work on the triangle in the lower right corner today.  The large rusty thistle head is centered in the pattern.  Once I finish the lower half, I will flip my stretcher frame and work from the middle to the top, upside down.

Panoply of Posies progress

I'm making pretty good progress in stitching my model for Panoply of Posies.  Here it is as of last night.  I managed to stitch the blue motif done during the Dr Who episode - and that is really saying something as it was hard to take my eyes off the TV!

The middle thistle has begun to emerge 12-14-09

This really big thistle, (or maybe a carnation or some other spikey looking flower) smack dab IN the middle is emerging.  It is stitched with Raisin Wine silk floss, per the chart.  I really like the colors I chose for the other motifs - that dark steel blue (Old Maid of the Sea) and the smoky grey brown (Wattle N Daub).  Don't you just love the names of those colors?                                            - Deb

A Panoply of Posies

In addition to Creation, which is mounted on my stitching stand -see my first post, December 13th - I'm working on other ideas! This is Panoply of Posies, soon to be available on Vikki Clayton's Hand-Dyed Fibers site http://hand-dyedfibers.com.

Each of these lovely antique Swiss motifs are really fun to stitch. You can choose colors that fit your mood and decor... or go with my suggestions.

The antique alphabet accompanies the chart for personalizing your work. - Deb
